Faith-Filled Fun: Easy DIY Playdough with a Purpose!

ree

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” – Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)

In preschool, sensory play is more than just fun—it’s a hands-on way for little ones to explore, create, and learn about the world God made. One of our favorite activities is making soft, squishy playdough with just a few simple ingredients. Not only is this recipe super easy, it also creates opportunities to talk about how God shapes and molds us, just like we shape the dough!

✨ DIY Soft Playdough Recipe

You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups cornstarch

  • 1 cup hair conditioner (any scent you love!)

  • A few drops of food coloring

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, add the conditioner and food coloring. Stir until the color is mixed in evenly.

  2. Slowly add the cornstarch while stirring.

  3. Mix until it begins to form a dough. You may need to knead it with your hands for a minute or two.

  4. If it’s too sticky, add a little more cornstarch. If it’s too dry, add a tiny bit more conditioner.

That’s it! You’ve created your own soft, moldable playdough. It smells amazing, feels amazing, and keeps little hands busy while sparking big imaginations.

👐 Faith Connection

As your child rolls, shapes, and sculpts, take a moment to remind them of Isaiah 64:8—how we are like clay in God’s hands. Just like they can form their playdough into anything, God lovingly shapes us into who He made us to be. What a beautiful truth to hold onto!

💬 Talk About It

  • Who made you?

  • How does God shape your heart?

  • What can we do to help others feel God’s love?

🙏 A Simple Prayer

“God, thank You for making me special and for shaping my life with love. Help me to trust You as my Potter, and to always follow Your ways. Amen.”
